Lower Ninth videos
The day of our reading we took an afternoon trip into the Lower Ninth Ward. Even after all of the news stories and photographs, I don't think any of us were really prepared for what we saw. I don't mean to sound overly dramatic but the level of destruction was truly astounding. And in so much as a photograph frames things, so does the window of a car. I remember stepping out to take a photograph and really feeling the resonance of all the losses.
Instead of restating what others have stated time and time again, I'll simply direct you to a couple of crude videos I took that probably echo our stunned silence better than any set of photographs.

it is a shock every time we see it, even living here Craig.
THANK YOU for shooting video and making it available. My comment is this:
I have heard citizens from outside NOLA say well why did they build there, and why should we pay for them to rebuild?
My reply:
The city was not destroyed by a hurricane. we were destroyed by incompetence and fraud on the part of our government in the form of the Corps of Engineers faulty levee design and inability to manage their own system..Those houses that you see in Craig's video are hard working people who thought they lived in a levee protection zone that their tax dollars paid for. I say to my outside-of-NewOrleans- fellow citizens: Help us hold the right people accountable, and don't let the lower and middle income of our country suffer!

We were there at the beginning of February as well. We visited Lower 9th ward almost everyday while we were visiting New Orleans. I understand what you mean by photos just don't justify.... We wanted to communicate the honest feeling with the rest of Art Center community (students, faculties, stuff..) so we used about 8'x30' wall to display about 220 photos which we took through our personal eyes printed on letter size....and filled up the entire wall. You can see some of the photo from the installation we did on our blog (http://projectlowerninth.blogspot.com). We got many students and faculities stopping by the wall and going through each picture... and many of them told us that they couldn't not believe what we saw was the truth....
