Here's a case of a reporter approaching a story with a fixed angle already in mind, walking around and talking to a few dumb-asses, and then writing that story. I could do the same story in Seattle -- find some prickly old farts who back McCain because he was tortured, find an anime-eyed barista who thinks Obama is the Messiah. Of course, in the reporter's defense, this is what US papers do all the time when reporting on foreign lands. I guess that's the case in India too.

Hmmm, you thought this, too, eh? The very first paragraph turned me off to the rest of the article. Why doesn't the author just call us all yokels in a backwater and get it over with?

You don't have to reach as far as India. The author, while of Indian heritage, is Columbia-educated and probably lives as far away as Manhattan (as long as we're indulging in stereotypes).

About this blog

After Katrina and its horrible aftermath, Chin Music Press felt compelled to shine its wobbly flashlight on New Orleans. This effort resulted in our second book, Do You Know What It Means To Miss New Orleans? Along the way, we met a community of passionate, eloquent writers who care deeply about what happens to the Big Easy. This blog became a natural extension of the book. It's our way of adding voices to the unfolding story of New Orleans.
