Voices of New Orleans

"It is has been three weeks since Hurricane Ike blew ashore on Galveston Island bringing up to 20 feet of Gulf waters over the low-lying land, killing a still yet to be determined number of residents — several hundred remain missing — and inflicting billions of dollars in damage. The television satellite trucks and cable news stars are gone and the nation's collective eye has turned elsewhere. But thousands of area residents now live in a stench-filled world where the incongruous is normal and the dangerous real." — from a Time magazine report on life after Ike

A new gallery is opening this Saturday in the St. Claude Arts District:

On Saturday April 12th, 6pm–9pm, Antenna, a new gallery in the St. Claude Arts District is opening its first show: Narrative. The exhibition features two collaborations, each involving a visual artist and a writer, each based around the idea of creating a narrative.

Teamed-up are artist Shawn Hall with playwright and poet Brad Elliot and artist/graphic novelist Brad Benischek with writer Case Miller.

Antenna is operated by the artist-run 501c3 collective Press Street. Narrative was chosen as its inaugural show to highlight the non-profit's mission to promote both art and literature in the community through dynamic projects, collaborations and publications.

Opening reception: Saturday April 12th, 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm
Show runs through May 17th, 2008

About this blog

After Katrina and its horrible aftermath, Chin Music Press felt compelled to shine its wobbly flashlight on New Orleans. This effort resulted in our second book, Do You Know What It Means To Miss New Orleans? Along the way, we met a community of passionate, eloquent writers who care deeply about what happens to the Big Easy. This blog became a natural extension of the book. It's our way of adding voices to the unfolding story of New Orleans.
