Voices of New Orleans

“ In books and official reports, the tragedy of Katrina was blamed on politicians, poverty and poor engineering, as it should have been. But there was another conversation that should have happened — not about blame, but about understanding. What did regular people do before, during and after the storm? Why? And what could they have done better?” — Amanda Ripley in her book, The Unthinkable

What better way to spend your Sabbath than to head on down to One Eyed Jack's for one of two shows tomorrow night (8 and 10) by the burlesque group Fleur de Tease. From the group itself:

Hi guys! Just wanted to send you a reminder about the Fleur de Tease Burlesque Revue this Sunday April 6 at One Eyed Jacks.

Fleur de Tease is going Around the World at Jacks this Sunday. There are two shows (8 & 10) with aerial, magic, and burlesque. We are doing traditional strip tease from such countries as Mexico, Spain, Brazil, Russia, Poland, Italy, and even the Moon. Our space aliens are super sexy. This is an awesome show, one of our best ones yet, so try to make it if you can!

About this blog

After Katrina and its horrible aftermath, Chin Music Press felt compelled to shine its wobbly flashlight on New Orleans. This effort resulted in our second book, Do You Know What It Means To Miss New Orleans? Along the way, we met a community of passionate, eloquent writers who care deeply about what happens to the Big Easy. This blog became a natural extension of the book. It's our way of adding voices to the unfolding story of New Orleans.
