Voices of New Orleans

"It is has been three weeks since Hurricane Ike blew ashore on Galveston Island bringing up to 20 feet of Gulf waters over the low-lying land, killing a still yet to be determined number of residents — several hundred remain missing — and inflicting billions of dollars in damage. The television satellite trucks and cable news stars are gone and the nation's collective eye has turned elsewhere. But thousands of area residents now live in a stench-filled world where the incongruous is normal and the dangerous real." — from a Time magazine report on life after Ike

Support independent theater by getting drunk on a boat. And dancing. And eating fine food. And watching a play. That's the plan Cripple Creek Theater came up with. Sounds like a lot of fun:

As you are spoiled by an open bar and delectable cuisine, you will be afforded the finest amusement the weakening dollar can buy – co-founders Andrew Vaught and Andrew Kingsley will recount on stage the sordid, yet exhilarating, story of a small theatre company’s birth. And while you’d be staring at peeling paint if bored at St. Mark’s, on the Creole Queen you’ll indulge in grand vistas of New Orleans, far, far below.

One hundred bucks for a good time and a good cause.

About this blog

After Katrina and its horrible aftermath, Chin Music Press felt compelled to shine its wobbly flashlight on New Orleans. This effort resulted in our second book, Do You Know What It Means To Miss New Orleans? Along the way, we met a community of passionate, eloquent writers who care deeply about what happens to the Big Easy. This blog became a natural extension of the book. It's our way of adding voices to the unfolding story of New Orleans.
