Music Friday: Do You Know What It Means? (second edition)

October 31, 2008

517IbBlHE8L._SL500_AA240_.jpgComing back to a bookshelf near you: Do You Know What It Means to Miss New Orleans?

The second edition has a new cover, with a new kind of star, sharper sketches inside and … the same content. Buy the book again to see how the star theme has evolved!

Where can you buy it? Well, first of all, at the Parkview Tavern this Saturday, along with some other Chin Music selections. That’s at 910 N. Carrollton, from noon to six (or so). Hey, it’s a bar –- don’t expect precise times.

I will be there to sign copies, and the sooner you get there the soberer the signature will be.

So guess what this week’s song is …? If you search for that title on YouTube, you will get lots of possibilities.

If you like the ukulele, played very slowly, with a disturbing close camera angle, hit this link.

If you always thought this song should be sung by fidgety children at gunpoint, while one singer holds onto his left foot, hit this link.

If you think the song should be performed in New Orleans by a great jazz singer, go back to hear Dianne Reeves in our archives.

Or go even further back, to the original version.

That should cover it.

If you’d like to have a beer on Saturday afternoon, I’ll see you at the Parkview (right next to Fellini’s –- fine pizza). Dogs and children welcome, at least out front on the comfortable plastic picnic benches.

See you there!

About this blog

After Katrina and its horrible aftermath, Chin Music Press felt compelled to shine its wobbly flashlight on New Orleans. This effort resulted in our second book, Do You Know What It Means To Miss New Orleans? Along the way, we met a community of passionate, eloquent writers who care deeply about what happens to the Big Easy. This blog became a natural extension of the book. It's our way of adding voices to the unfolding story of New Orleans.
