DYK arrives in time for Mardi Gras

Boxes and boxes of our book, Do You Know What It Means To Miss New Orleans?, arrived yesterday. They look great. As you can see, we immediately put our three- and five-year-old publicists to work.

Kimi checks out what her reading mentor, Colleen Mondor, has to say.

Hey, even if you can't read, you can use DYK as an expensive flip book — the little stars on the top of the page go shooting across the length of the book.
Congratulations to everyone who helped us with this project!

Sweet lord, Kenzo is big. It took me a while to realize who this "extra" child was.
And the book looks huge in the hands of those midgets. Can't wait to get my copies over here in Tokyo!

Bruce - just wondering if any portion of the proceeds go toward the re-building of the city....and certainly not as a 'Disney Land for grown-ups'? I will still buy if not, as I said...inquiring minds want to know! God bless.

Christine - We just finished a campaign raising money for Rebuilding Together New Orleans, but technically that ended on Jan. 31. However, we are also doing a fundraiser/reading for them on Feb. 16 at the Saturn Bar in New Orleans. There we're donating $10 from every sale to RTNO and raising money through a cash bar, etc. So if you haven't bought the book and you'd like to send part of your purchase to RTNO, just let us know and we'll count you as an event sale and give RTNO the $10.
RTNO is a group that helps low-income elderly and disabled persons rebuild. FYI, so far, we've raised about $800for them. A drop in the bucket, I know, but then again, maybe we can raise a lot more on Feb 16. Come join us if you're in the city.

Christine,
as a contributor to this fine book, I am totally in favor of the money going to Rebuilding Together. They have been working in New Orleans for 15 years to help rebuild regular folk's housing and utilize volunteer efforts.
cool people at RT!

Hi,
Congrats on the book. I just finished off my photo book about the rescue operation, Miracle on Bourbon St. (www.lulu.com/angeltek)
I've been covering wars and disasters for over 14years and few places hold quite the place in my heart that NOLA does. (Sarajevo is the only other one that comes to mind).
I don't quite know how to describe it, but when I went back here a week ago there was this spirit that I've only seen in Sarajevans...You can't take us out, period. Push us and we'll push back.
There is no other place on this planet like New Orleans. You can be anything or anyone there and it's cool.
Keep me in the loop, there's very little I wouldn't do for your town. Rarely have I been so welcomed by so many.
Never Surrender
Jim
